Transportation Lobby Day Set for May 4
Thursday, April 1, 2010
Join us for a Transportation Lobby Day at 10:30 a.m., May 4, in the Rotunda of the Capitol Building in Lansing. The goal of the rally is to encourage lawmakers to find a funding solution for transportation infrastructure. Participants are encouraged to meet with their legislators before or after the rally. Please set appointments where possible. Your attendance at this Lobby Day is important. See you May 4!
We would encourage you to come and submit cards of opposition tomorrow morning in the full Approps Committee if they take up the Transportation Budget.
March 17, 2010: The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation reported the FY11 Transportation Budget yesterday on a 5-3 vote. Among other things, the committee passed a bill that would cut the MDOT road and bridge program by 62% and leave $500 million in federal gas taxes in Washington to be spent by other states. The budget also kicks the can down the road and doesn't address the need for minimum local road and transit investment, forcing MI to miss out on millions more in federal aid.
Rep. Gonzales' indicated today that the Transportation budget may be brought up in full Approps Committee tomorrow morning. The meeting is scheduled for 9:30am in 352 CB. We believe this would be another good opportunity on a larger stage for the entire coalition to come out opposed to the budget. Although we didn't win the vote in subcommittee Tuesday, the strong opposition from different groups was noticed and much of the committee conversation revolved around the points that we raised.
We would encourage you to come and submit cards of opposition tomorrow morning in the full Approps Committee if they take up the Transportation Budget.
